Michelle O'Keefe Murder Trial
AV News
(Short/Cropped News Release)

The jury in the Michelle O’Keefe murder was sent home this evening after failing to come to a verdict. Today was the sixth straight day where the jury failed to reach a verdict.

Raymond Lee Jennings stands accused of murdering the former Antelope Valley College student back in 2000 at a Park and Ride in Palmdale.

Jennings, the Security Guard on duty at the Park and Ride at the time, was arrested years later after being a person of interest. LASD Detectives had put a case together which led to Jennings arrest.

The jury is expected to return on Monday morning to continue their deliberations. This is the 3rd trial of Jennings where the previous two trials resulted in mistrials.

This cannot be an easy deliberation for any jury. Without a murder weapon, clear-cut forensics or an apparent motive (apart from speculations of sexual assault), the case against Jennings is at best circumstantial and difficult (but not impossible) to get a conviction.

This stands in stark contract to the Amanda Knox conviction today where, under Italian law, one is apparently guilty until proven innocent.

If at first you can’t convict, try, try again.
Eventually you’ll get a full dozen jurors who can accept a case built entirely out of speculation without anyone having one of those silly “reasonable doubt” notions.

The key was to keep trying, bring the trial back to the Antelope Valley, and hope the public would hang the guy. Jennings is being convicted because the D.A. needs a win. Parris made a lot of cash off the civil case regarding the parents so now someone’s head must roll.

I bet if they could they would try Jennings four, five, and six times to try to get a guilty verdict. Kind of scary when you think about how far the system will go to get a win. And all the while, the real killer is probably sitting back, drinking a cold beer and thanking Jennings for being his scapegoat.

No, I do not think Jennings is guilty but I guess the theory is someone needs to pay.

One thing is certain: had Michelle O’Keefe not been a white girl, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office would not have developed its obsession with the likely-to-be-innocent Raymond Lee Jennings in the first place.

So did Jennings do it or didn’t he? They must have some proof.

One thing for certain, Cybertariat: Had Michelle not been white, this would have been investigated as a possible hate crime, and weather or not it had been, it would have gotten much more media attention.

I do not know nor have I ever believed that Mr. Jennings killed Michele O’Keefe.

Additionally, Mrs. O’keefe and I share a common friend. I think it would be interesting for the voters to check into how much money the O’Keefe family won in their lawsuit against the city, how mayor Rexy was their lawyer, and how much cash the O’Keefe’s actually got. My sympathies go out to them on many levels. They once were my family’s neighbors.

Bill, I’m willing to bet that there are some jurors who are afraid to come back with a not quilty verdict. So many people in high places are pushing for guilty to appease others that I’m betting some jurors’ knees are knocking. They should have left the trial down in Los Angeles. This is too small a community with too much pressure.

Bill,

A few things, first your brother Rex is the reason why crime has gone down in the AV! 2nd we all know Jennings killed OKeefe that night in Feb of 2000. Why would he tell his co-worker that he killed Michelle that night if he didnt do it! Also why if he saw signs of life would he not render first aid!? HE WAS TRAINED IN GUN SHOT WOUND TREAMENT AND FIRST AID! Why would jennings in the interview with cops say “I Fuc*ed up my life forever!” When the cops werent in the room… Why would an eye-witness tell the cops Jennings ran from OKeefe’s car just seconds after she heard gunshots. Bill we all know you are friends with Jennings girl friend Mary Wady, thank god you two dont live in California City! Let the Jury find Jennings guilty as he Killed OKeefe that cold FEB night!

Judge Denies Defense Motion For a Mistrial

By Chris McGuinness
Lancaster —The Judge in the Raymond Lee Jennings murder trial of Michelle O’Keefe, denied a defense motion Monday for a mistrial. The defense had hoped to gain a mistrial after it found that certain paperwork and a DVD from a previous trial was accidentally delivered to the Jury room.

The defense stated that the evidence had tainted the jury since it had been in the jury room for a long period of time. However jurors told the Judge that the evidence had not been opened or looked at by any jurors. Following the denial of the defense motion, the judge stopped the deliberations for the remainder of the day due to a juror being ill. The deliberations are due to begin again tomorrow, Tuesday.

Bill – AVJustice has arrived on the scene.

When fools start sentences like “we all know” that means “Believe as I want you to believe or else you’re a fool.”

That “we all know” phrase is contained in some materials Rex once gave me to teach me how to be more persuasive.

It’s part of the different courses lawyers take to manipulate the jury.

Let me try it too “we all know that lawyers take drama courses don’t we?” I once knew a lawyer who could cry at the drop of a hat and make you feel soooooooo sad.

You go for it AVJustice. Mayor Rex must be so proud those materials are working for you. Stop by and I’ll give you those that he gave me. I think they worked on everybody except him when I tried to use them on him about the Walmart deal and Jim Vose heading up the Planning Commission.

Wish I had been on that jury. I am a firm believer that politics make their way into jury rooms, and Prosecutors do not care about truth. They are only concerned about how many notches they can get in their belt. When my brother ran for Judge, the legal rag (I do not remember the name of the paper)published for attorneys in the LA area bashed him hard. He was not of the DA’s office. Notice most judges come from within the DA’s office. We are to trust them?

So did you all hear Jennings asked to plead guilty to Manslaughter yesterday in court! I guess it clears up everyone’s questions about Jennings Guilt!!! I wonder what happends now, Manslaughter gives him 15 years then the gun enhacement gives him another 10 so thats 25 years and the guy is what 38 years old? If he is gonna do this deal he better sign up soon if the DA’s office is even offering it. I heard he told his Defense Atty to aproach and ask and they had a 4 hour side bar yesterday afternoon about it. He better hurry up because as soon as the foreman signs that 1st degree murder charge Jennings wont see the light of day for the rest of his life. Where if he pleads out he can get out around 60 or so….
TO dbeardw and anyone else who thinks Jennings was innocent, well I hate to break it to you but you are wrong!!! Jennings himself asked the court to enter a guilty plea of Manslaughter yesterday now Im curious to see what the DA says now that WE ALL KNOW 100% sure Raymond Jennings killed OKeefe by his own admission. Im hope-ing the Jury just comes back with a 1st Degree Murder and they throw away the key and tell jennings to prepare his funeral and coffin as he will be dying in Prison. But I guess we will find out today. And just so everyone knows Rex has my vote for Mayor in the future as he helped get this Killer; Raymond Jennings Off the streets making them safer! Man how he could kill that pretty 18 year old Quartz Hill Cheerleader he must have something wrong with him! My heart goes out to the victims family. Are they still in the AV or did they move?

Hark! av(in)justice: The plant that speaks!… And lies for his dark master, Parris.

Parris feels the pressure on this case as he developed much of what the DA is using in court. No conviction again would show yet again the ineptitude of Parris and his firm, so pressure was likely brought forth upon the defendant, Jennings, about his ‘exposure’ with recommendations by the DA to ‘take a deal – or else!’ That Jennings may (but probably not, Parris plants tend to lie a lot) have gotten scared of that intense pressure does not prove his guilt or innocence in any way.

You see, the thing about ambulance chasing Parris is that he is not well versed in criminal law… And “we all know 100% sure” of that!

I think I’ll wait to hear from a real jury on this.

CJ,

Well its my understanding if the Jennings Pleads out to 2nd Degree Murder the Jury is then excused and sentancing takes place right? ABC 7 reported last night that a possible dispostion has taken place and they said they would have more at there 11am news so im waiting to hear…. Im curious if Jennings wants to plead out and he says he is guilty what happens if the Jury reaches a verdict prior to him agreeing to a deal. The Verdict takes Precident correct? All I know is that none of us actually sat in on the trial and heard ALL of the evidence we only know what we hear from the press but 11 for guilty and one for not guilty last trial shows alot. I think theres alot of pieces that need to be put together and that all shows Jennings is Guilty and with a confession theres no reason to think otherwise….

First off, that statement does not seem to verifiable from KABC news (which doesn’t surprise me). Second off, it was not reported in the local AV Press at all today (which has a greater vested interest in reporting it, being local news). Third off, the only reason for someone to post such unverifiable claptrap is to taint public opinion to cover Parris’ public image, which should only be necessary if there is a distinct likelihood that Parris’ ‘evidence’ used in this case will have been found to be very shoddy, making for either a not guilty verdict or (more likely) another hung jury (unsurprising, since Parris and his cronies utilize faulty, opinion-based, ‘evidence’ in everything that they do or say).

But, even if we were to entertain such bombast as being true: At this point in the proceedings, the only way that a DA would take a plea bargain would be if the DA felt that he was going to lose, indicating that there is a distinct likelihood of Jenning being unconvictable on the merits of the case.

Again, I will wait to hear from a real jury.

With our reporter in the courtroom all day yesterday, sitting with the O’Keefe family, we would have heard about any “plea deal” or arrangements.

If said “plea deal” had been arranged, it would have been headlines in the AV News and on our newspaper website. It was not.

I’m sorry to say that this information is either third party or out right false.
